Summer Reading/Activities Challenge
Level Up! at the Altadena Library District this summer! Log the minutes that you read and the activities that you complete. Completing this challenge requires 5 badges.
How do you earn badges? By completing 2 challenges in a given category. This summer's activity categories include opportunities to Level-Up in 5 ways: with self-care, in your community, yourself, through fun, and at the library.

Help us reach our community reading goal of 250,000 minutes!

Department of Agriculture, administered in California by the California Department of Education. Lunch at the Library is a project of the California State Library, supported with funds from the State of California.
We have more than 100 programs scheduled this summer. Pick up a printed catalog at our Main Library. You can also learn more about our summer events and register for specific programs at www.altadenalibrary.org/programs.
A Case for Summer Reading
Summer reading programs are more important than ever. It is normal in summer months for students to experience “summer slide,” or learning loss, over the break from school. The Altadena Libraries’ Summer Reading Program empowers students to build their literacy skills through encouraging the self-selection of materials and incentives. Eight out of 10 studies show that students who read for fun perform better in school than students who do not. This summer we encourage you to adopt new patterns that can change your life and the lives of your children. Let’s make reading fun this summer!
Teen Volunteers
Teens can also volunteer during the summer for service credit. All new volunteers must fill out our online application. You will receive an email with instructions on how to complete the Teen Volunteer Program Orientation.
Stop by the Teen Space or visit our teen page to learn more about the summer volunteer schedule.
